BMW Skytop – The elegant two-seater comes as a strictly limited small series
BMW presents "Skytop", a new concept car, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, the beauty competition for historic cars and motorcycles. The open-top two-seater brings back memories of the Z8.
The new Skytop design study shows a daring concept car from the Munich-based company. According to BMW, Skytop is intended to combine elegance and driving dynamics and follow on from the historic role models BMW Z8 and BMW 503.

BMW Concept Skytop: Design
The BMW Skytop can easily be mistaken for a new, more modern variant of the Z8 in terms of its appearance. This is ensured, among other things, by the silhouette with the elongated bonnet. In addition to the traditional model, the idea of luxurious travel was at the forefront of the development of the Skytop.
Despite the design borrowings, the Skytop is independent enough and sets striking accents of its own. This is not only ensured by the modern shark nose with illuminated kidney grille at the front. The bar, which runs from the bonnet to the tailgate, also underlines the character of the Skytop. The design of the headlights is also unusual.
The LED units have been specially developed for the Skytop and are extremely flat, emphasising the clear and purist design language of the concept car. Fittingly, the rear lights are also designed extremely flat and form a stylistic bracket for the car.
BMW has also put a lot of effort into the design of the interior. The reddish hue of the surfaces forms a colour unit with the removable roof shell and combines interior and exterior design.
The leather seats have a Budapest-style accent and are stylishly complemented by the crystal applications incorporated into the cockpit. These provide an overview and enable carefree travel in the luxurious two-seater.
BMW Concept Skytop – Drive
For an open two-seater for luxury travel, the engine must of course also be right. To do this, BMW's engineers have once again taken their cue from the Z8. As with the roadster at the time, the Skytop also benefits from a powerful engine.
The most powerful V8 engine that BMW currently has in its drive portfolio is installed. With a displacement of 4.4 liters, the gasoline engine has 625 hp and is operated via an eight-speed automatic. In 3.3 seconds, the Skytop should then reach 100 km/h. In terms of fuel consumption, the BMW Skytop is in line with WLTP at 11.6 l/100 km.
BMW has now announced that the Skytop will come as a strictly limited small series. Just 50 units of the convertible will be built. This should make the two-seater roadster a real collector's item.
